What is Medicare Part D?

Medicare Part D is the part of the Medicare program that provides Medicare beneficiaries with prescription drug coverage. Part D plans are similar to Medicare Advantage plans, in that they are sold by private insurance companies that Medicare has approved. Each plan is not standardized, so there is some variation.

Can You Get Part D with Medicare Advantage?

Technically, no. While you are able to get prescription drug coverage directly through a Medicare Advantage plan, you cannot purchase a Part D plan while covered by Medicare Advantage in most cases. There are some exceptions to this rule, but generally, it is not allowed.
